SEASONAL TRAIL and ROAD UPDATE
Most trails within the Ketchum Ranger District are closed to all uses due to snow and/or mud.
The Castle Rock Fire burn area closure order for trail uses went into effect Thursday, May 1. The fire closure area includes trails accessed from the following trailheads - Adams Gulch, Fox Creek, Bald Mountain, Greenhorn, Deer Creek and North Fork Deer Creek Trailheads. The closure also includes the following trails accessed from the Warm Springs Road: West Fork of Warm Springs, Rooks Creek, Red Warrior and Warfield.
All trails within the Ketchum Ranger District and the Castle Rock Fire burn area will be opened on a case by case basis as the snow melts and the mud dries, or after they are reconstructed.
The following trails within the Castle Rock Fire burn area are now partially open:
1.Wanderers Way (also known as Heidelberg Hill) is open from the Warm Springs Road side up to the ridgeline, this trail is still closed from the ridgeline descending into Adams Gulch.
2. Sunnyside Trail in Adams Gulch is partially opened.
3. Lanes Trail in Adams Gulch is partially opened.
4. Citizens Trail in Adams Gulch is partially opened.
5. Also in Adams Gulch, very short sections of “Pork Chop” (at the intersection of Lanes and Sunnyside Trails) and “Why Hill’ (immediately to the east off of Sunnyside Trail) are partially open.
Trails outside the Castle Rock Fire that are now partially open include:
1. Boundary Creek Trailhead: The access trail leading to Corral Creek, Aspen Loop and Proctor Loop is partially open. Beginning from the trailhead parking area, the trail leading north following Trail Creek and crossing the footbridge and leading across a flat bench area is partially opened. Please note: Corral Creek, Aspen loop and Proctor Loop trails are all still closed.
Even as trails open, please remember to apply the rule of thumb “if you leave a muddy track, turn back”. Patience this spring and summer will pay off in a user-friendly trail system as trails within the District and Castle Rock Fire area dry out or are reconstructed. |

Remember most trails in the southern foothills, located on BLM lands, are not protected by signs and much of the access either crosses or borders private land. Please be respectful of private lands by carrying out all trash and honoring all Private Property signs. |
